Fernando Napolitano is managing partner of Booz Allen Hamilton in Italy. He joined Booz Allen in 1990 and was elected to vice president in 1998. He received his bachelor’s degree summa cum laude from Federico II University Business Administration Faculty in Naples, Italy, his MS in technology management from Brooklyn Polytechnic University in New York, and his advanced management program degree from Harvard Business School. Mr. Napolitano coordinates Booz Allen Hamilton’s European Advisory Board which is composed of ten leading business personalities from around Europe and chaired by Didier Pineau-Valencienne.
Mr. Napolitano’s consulting has focused on competitive strategy, technology, and international competition in the media, telecommunications, and in the aerospace fields. He now specializes on organization and change leadership. Over the last fifteen years, Fernando Napolitano has consulted in more than 30 countries around the world with large industrial and service firms, as well as governments and international organizations. Outside of Booz Allen Hamilton, he has served on the board of directors of Enel SpA, and is also a member of its Compensation Committee. When appointed to Enel’s board in 2002, he was the youngest outside director ever appointed to its board. As a board member at Enel, he helped shape commitment to a megacommunity mindset at the C-suite level and has supported the endowment of a chair at Harvard University—the Enel Endowment for Environmental Economics. This chair is unique in that it is led by the JFK School of Government and involves all ten schools of Harvard University, which will reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the environmental economics.
Mr. Napolitano is a member of the Aspen Institute Italia, member of the Italy-U.S. council that promotes industrial cooperation between the two countries, board member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Italy, and has served on the board of the Italian Aerospace Research Center (CIRA). He is also a member of the international advisory board of Harvard's Environmental Economics program.
Mr. Napolitano is very active within the Italian media community. He has worked as a columnist on international affairs on Panorama, the number one Italian weekly business magazine, senior editor for Panorama Economy, and a frequent guest on TV networks (such as CNBC) on industrial topics. He has lectured on Italian and European competitive dynamics and written numerous managerial articles on international trade, firm strategy, and global competition. Fernando Napolitano has supported Richard H. K. Vietor, Senator John Heinz Professor of Environmental Management at Harvard Business School, in writing the Business School’s first ever country case on Italy in 2000, and recently created a new case for the school in 2007. Additionally, Mr. Napolitano was also a water-polo player for the Italian national team and a European champion in 1984.
